Genealogical Research in Westphalia

*This is a partner event. Presenter: Sabine Akabayov. Westphalia is a region in northwestern Germany, now primarily part of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. This webinar will discuss how to do genealogical research in Westphalia. The “genannt” naming pattern for farms, which were the names adopted by anyone taking over a farm, will be explained. Attendees will learn how to access and navigate the State Archive of North Rhine Westphalia which is digitizing more and more records. Sabine Akabayov is an IGGP board member who was born and raised in Germany. She also lived in the U.S. but now lives in Israel. She is a professional genealogist with expertise in U.S., German and Israeli research as well as forensic genealogy. Register.
