The Life of a Subject Who Resided on Property Owned by a German Monastery

*This is a partner event. Presenter: Milan Pohontsch. Prior to the early 1800s, peasants were not only subjects of a king or prince, but they were also “owned” by local nobility or, to a lesser degree, by church institutions. This presentation explores the living conditions of a typical rural subject residing on church-owned property. Additionally, it examines the expectations, obligations, and customs that such a subject had to navigate.  Register here.
