The German Research Team and German Interest Group at SCGS can help you navigate the unique challenges of researching your German ancestors.

Germans form the largest group of immigrants to the America. Germans were among the settlers of Jamestown in 1608; and the first permanent German settlement was established in Germantown, Pennsylvania in 1683. Since then, some eight million German immigrants have entered the United States.

Purpose:

The Southern California Genealogical Society (SCGS) exists to foster the understanding and appreciation of the collective and individual histories, cultures and traditions of our diverse communities, and recognition of their contributions to our dynamic society.

SCGS endeavors to preserve genealogical materials, support ethnic and special interest groups, and to provide education and guidance with accepted and effective research techniques, documentation, and dissemination of family histories.

Youth Membership

Twelve-month membership for one person under the age of 25 who provides a copy of her/his driver’s license or other photo ID with proof of age. Includes all benefits of membership listed in an individual membership. Upon reaching the age of twenty-five (25), the Youth Member will become an Individual Member and be subject to annual fees in force at that time when the membership comes up for renewal.

The Searcher Printed and Mailed to You

All Members can view the electronic version of The Searcher in the Members Only section of the Website. If you would like a hardcopy to you, it is an additional annual fee to be added to the mailing list.
