IGGP Conference 2019 - Sacramento, California

Conference

Beginning on Saturday, June 15, 2019, Sacramento will host the second international conference of the International German Genealogy Partnership (IGGP). More than 700 people are expected to attend the conference to focus on the history and genealogy of those with German ancestry, wherever they live in the world.

The conference there, STRIKE IT RICH! with Connections 2 Discoveries, follows on the Connections theme of the 2017 inaugural conference.

The “gold” theme is especially appropriate given Sacramento history. John Sutter, born as Johann August Sutter in Baden, in what is southwestern Germany, eventually settled in Sacramento Valley and built a sawmill where gold was found in 1848.  That discovery set off the California Gold Rush.

The 2019 International German Genealogy Conference, to be held in downtown Sacramento at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, will offer three days of German-centric presentations in multiple tracks –Geographic, Technology, Advancing Your Research, and more. Attendees will learn from genealogists, authors, historians, and archivists who are top presenters with advanced proficiency in their fields of study. It’s a sure bet that more than one visitor will shout “EUREKA!” upon learning something that breaks through a brick wall or offers new understanding of their family’s history – German and non-German researchers alike.

Ms. Amy Chidester from San Diego, California, and Chair of the Presenters’ Team, says, “The IGGP International Conference has emerged as one of the top international Germanic genealogy conferences. We are working hard to exceed the standard set in 2017. If you are interested in the genealogy of the German-speaking peoples, this is a conference you cannot miss.”

IGGP comprises more than 100 organizations around the world. IGGP’s mission is “to facilitate German genealogy research globally as the internationally-recognized federation of German genealogy organizations.”

IGGP held its first international conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2017. Participants travelled from Europe, North America, South America and Australia. German genealogy expert and columnist for German Life Magazine, James M. Beidler from eastern Pennsylvania, observed. “I’ve been coming to genealogy conferences around the country for nearly 20 years. The first IGGP conference in 2017 was the best I’ve ever attended in terms of organization, facilities, program and sheer energy. I’m looking forward to Sacramento in 2019 to be even better!”

The conference is hosted by the Sacramento German Genealogy Society supported by a consortium of Germanic Genealogy Societies across the Golden State.
