About:

The St. Louis Genealogical Society (StLGS) is a not-for-profit, all volunteer organization with members in almost every state and several foreign countries. Begun in 1968, it is now the largest local genealogical society in the United States, renowned for its excellence in programming, resources, classes, and membership services. The society is managed according to a set of bylaws and a mission statement: The society promotes family history research by providing educational and research opportunities, offering community services in related fields, and collecting, preserving, and publishing genealogical and historical records.

Purpose:

The St. Louis Genealogical Society German Special Interest Group focuses on teaching family history research, providing genealogy classes, and research opportunities. We welcome those interested in researching their German-speaking ancestors from the Second German Empire or earlier German states, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Switzerland, and any other German-speaking enclave. We host four German genealogy meetings annually. These are supplemented by several German-specific classes yearly as part of St. Louis Genealogical Society’s ongoing education program.

Membership:

Memberships are not transferable or refundable.

Beginning in 2020, there will be an additional $5 fee for the paper Quarterly. The electronic Quarterly is free to members who do not select the paper Quarterly. If you wish the paper Quarterly, add $5 to your membership.

Youth Membership $25    NEW

Membership for one individual 25 years of age or younger. Receive all of the membership benefits listed under “Membership Benefits” below.

Individual Membership $40

Receive all of the membership benefits listed under “Membership Benefits” below.

Family Membership $45

Receive all of the membership benefits listed under “Membership Benefits” below for two people living in the same house.

Friend of the Society $100

Friend of the Society is a greater yearly membership donation helping our all-volunteer society to continue with its mission with all of the membership benefits listed under “Membership Benefits” below.

Patron $175

Society patrons receive all of the membership benefits listed under “Membership Benefits” below plus a one-hour consultation with an experienced genealogist.

Life Membership $600

Life members pay a one-time fee and receive all of the membership benefits listed under “Membership Benefits” below plus a St. Louis Genealogical Society Life Member pin and a two-hour consultation with an experienced genealogist.

Free Genealogy Classes and Discounts on Society Events and Products

  • StLGS classes are free for members.
  • Members get discounts on the annual Family History Conference and Speaker Series. (The society’s Family History Conference is the largest single-day genealogical event in the Midwest. The Speaker Series, held once or twice each year, explores a selected topic in depth.)
  • Members get discounts on the annual Salt Lake City Research Trip. (The annual research trip in October/November to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah, is led by professional genealogists with many years of experience in using the library. This trip offers a chance to spend a week researching at the largest library devoted to genealogy in the world in the company of others with similar interests.)
