Immigrant Genealogical Society, Inc.

Oldenburgische Gesellschaft für Familienkunde e.V.

About:

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, donations to IGS are tax-deductible for both federal and state purposes. IGS issues tax donation receipts for amounts of $50 and greater. Donations are used to purchase new library materials and periodical subscriptions, especially publications relating to German genealogical research. Donations also help support the technology behind hosting Second Sundays and other educational events throughout the year.

Cash donations of any amount are greatly appreciated, as even small donations help towards “keeping the lights on” in our facility on Magnolia Boulevard, so that we can continue to make the collection open and available to the public.

Purpose:

The Immigrant Genealogical Society (IGS) was founded in 1982 to help Americans trace their ancestors’ origins, particularly in the German speaking areas of Europe and the places in the world to which they migrated. Read our history.

    Membership Benefits:

    • Free admission to The Immigrant Library in Burbank, California, whereas a donation of $5 is requested for each visit by a non-member.
    • Discounted rates to some events and workshops (when applicable).
    • Access to a community of genealogical researchers with expertise in German Genealogy. All are invited to join us on the Second Sunday of each month, but members are especially encouraged to come share their knowledge, knock down brick walls, ask for advice, or show-and-tell in the Spotlight Segment!
    • Membership and donations are tax-deductible.
    • Satisfaction of supporting a community dedicated to researching our German heritage and ancestry.
    • Participate in elections at the IGS Annual Membership meeting, held on the Second Sunday of November at 2:00 PM Pacific Time.
