The German Genealogy Group (GGG) is a not for profit organization, headquartered in New York, that was established in early 1996 to provide mutual support among those interested in researching their Germanic ancestors. While we are not able to respond to requests asking for us to do your research, we do provide guidance and help whenever possible, along with the below benefits of membership.

Purpose:

We work together in assisting our members find their “roots” by providing help sessions, finding aids, lectures, mentoring, a monthly newsletter and a forum to meet and discuss research problems and solutions.

We look to promote and encourage an interest in genealogy, educate members, and to help preserve, computerize and make available important and endangered records to be shared by all members of the genealogy community.

We share a mutual interest in genealogy and make every effort to make the GGG member experience as enjoyable and rewarding as possible. We participate in Family History Fairs, GGG Spring and Fall dinners, genealogy record preservation projects and group trips to genealogy repositories and places of genealogical interest. Join us and discover that family research is a most interesting and rewarding hobby that will enable you to discover your past and preserve your heritage.

Membership:

Membership dues covers 12 months from receipt of payment. Multiple years may be purchased to lock in your Membership Dues price for as long as you like.
Price:   US $15.00 per year.

      Newsletter (published 10 times/year)

      • Newsletter available by E-mail

      Receive the Newsletter by email and you will receive it earlier than by postal mail. In addition, it will be in color and all displayed web site links are live–able to take you directly to the displayed web site.

      GGG Members are given access to the Members Area of this web site, which includes:

      • the ability to contact other members via email
      • the German Genealogy Group Guidebook, full of useful information to kick start a new member’s research or to reinvigorate an experienced researcher
      • the Surname List with the ability to contact other Members directly
      • copies of all previous newsletters, searchable by topic
      • handouts and recordings of meeting presentations
      • guides to learning how to read German script
      • Mentoring & Translation service – for GGG Members ONLY   

      Help Desk
      Before each meeting experts are available to help you over the brick wall. Stop by their table and discuss your genealogy problem and see what advice they offer you.

      Mentoring
      We offer a mentoring service for GGG Members who may be new to genealogy or are stuck and in need of guidance. The mentor does not do the research for you but will work with you and suggest methods that worked in their own research.

      Translations
      We offer a translation service for GGG Members for when they have a genealogical record that requires translation or extraction.

      GGG Forum
      The GGG Forum is available for GGG Members to post a genealogy-related question. Other GGG Members may respond to your question.

      Surname Matching
      Our Surname list has over 1000 entries.  Members are able to directly contact other Members regarding matching surnames.

      Member Owned Books
      The member section of our web site has a list of books owned by Members. Members are willing to do simple look-ups for other members in these books to help them further their research.

      German Life Magazine
      A discount subscription to German Life Magazine is available to all Members.

      Events
      Part of the fun of being a Member of the GGG is participation in outside events with other Members. Participate in our cemetery crawl, tours, Steuben Day Parade, genealogy events, spring and fall dinners and Bavarian festivals.

      Meeting Handouts
      Copies of handouts from presentations by speakers at our meetings are available on this web site exclusively for our Members.
