SUMMARY:Struck Down but not Destroyed: The Story of Rudolf Heupel\, a German-Russian Immigrant
DESCRIPTION:Ron Baesler’s presentation is based on his book of the same title.  It’s the story of Ron’s maternal grandfather\, a man who not only survived but thrived amid difficult times. It is an imaginative reconstruction of Rudolph’s life\, based on historical research\, his written documents\, Ron’s encounters\, and family memories. It is a story of how one man struggled to live out his faith in his home\, community\, and congregation. Ron is a farm boy\, physicist\, pastor\, missionary\, seminary professor\, gardener\, grandfather\, father and husband. He was born and raised on a farm in New Leipzig\, North Dakota. He graduated from the University of North Dakota\, and his first call was as pastor at Peace Lutheran Church in Fargo. Registration. \n\n\n\nHis work has taken him from the high plains of the upper Midwest to the mountain villages of Madagascar\, from the verdant lands of southern Brazil to the exquisite beaches of Puerto Rico\, from the chilly climes of North Dakota to the Mediterranean climate of Southern California. Wherever he has gone\, he has listened to stories\, told stories\, and written stories. \n\n\n\n\n\nCentral Time Zone | online | English

SUMMARY:National-Socialism: Euthanasia and family research
DESCRIPTION:During the Nazi era\, people were transferred from hospitals and homes for the disabled to various institutions in the German Reich and in the annexed territories and murdered there. This took place in two phases. Speaker Inga Guttzeit\, based on her own relative\, shows that it is possible to follow his path in today’s Poland and the Pomeranian institutions until he was murdered in Meseritz (today Międzyrzecz) in Brandenburg. There will be an overview of the history surrounding the forced sterilization of mentally ill and disabled people and their murder (“euthanasia”). This presentation will not be recorded. Info & registration. Inga Guttzeit lives in Lübeck\, Germany\, and has been researching and speaking on this topic for many years. \n\n\n\nPacific Time Zone | online | English
